sold a motorcycle in aug.07 gave the guy the title.still have the bike.what can i do.?

file for a lost title and sell it again...it's more his loss than yours...you can get a new title...but he doesn't have his money......but seriously you can contact the dmv and file for a lost title....it will take awhile and cost you a little bit but his down payment will more than cover it.....

thats weird, why would someone pay you for something they arent using. try getting ahold of him so he doesnt try pulling any funny business since he has the title.
If you already signed the title over to him, it is legally his. If you put a lien on it, then it is officially yours until he pays in full. I doubt you went through that though.
You could be a really nice guy and deliver it to his house with a note explaining that he can get you the 500 bucks whenever he can afford to, and that someone should be enjoying the bike, and since he is the legal owner, it should be him.
Or
You could part it out, and if it is contested that you sold property that was not yours, then produce any documentation showing that he owed you 12,000, but didn't pay in full, then you tried to contact him for the rest and to get him to take the property, but he never did. I'd consult a lawyer on this first though. A lawyer might be a few hundered, but if the bike was worth 12k two years ago, I'd think you could part it out for at least 4k now.

Did you have the title notorized, if not no prob just reapply for a new title. If you did, Then I would assume that you wrote up a contract or sale agreement and an ensuing reciept of the 11500, I don't imagine he handed you that money without asking for one. You can contact you local DMV and apply for a title based on his failure to fulfill the contract, kinda like a mechanics lean. Last of all I hope you learned to never give up the title, its your only leverage.
