New sw R3BH002 for C902

Description:
New and improved software has been released on Emma for C902 (all kits with no software control + only initial sw control and then according to operator acceptance.)
The main improvements in R3BH002 are:

The "HW watchdog" problem which cause intermittent restarts has been solved.
Audio clipping when playing music has been solved.

Description

G900/G700 restart after flashing


Information
This is a information/clarification for G900 and G700:

After you have flashed the units in Emma, you must remove the battery and then re-insert the battery again before you restart the unit.

If you don't do this it could happend that the unit dosn't start up.

This effects RTL and MR1 sw on all kits.

A solution is planned for the MR2 sw.

This is NOT effecting P1 or W96o.

G900/G700 - Activation


Information/solution
The service centers should never select language in G700 or G900 since the customer should be able to select language them selves.

To access the service menu without selecting a language you need to press * during start up of the phone. Then "UK English" will be the only selectable language. Select the language and you will be able to access the service menu. At next start-up all languages are available again.

When running activation script on G900 or G700 never select language before connecting the phone to USB.

When the phone is connected you need to press “done” in the display.

For P1 and W960 it was necessary to choose language before activation (see SI 15957-66493) but this has been improved for G900 and G700.
We have seen a lot of BOSS cases due to this misunderstanding.

New activation service Emma

Description:
Due to poor activation yield for HB1-07 Central products a new activation solution has been developed for HB1-08 Central. The new solution is backwards compatible with HB1-07, i.e. works on all HB1-07 products as well. The new activation service will NOT work with any products older than HB107 products.

Current activation method:
The activation service used today for HB1-07 products have the following steps:
1. Run Customize service in Emma.
2. Power on the phone and wait until “Insert SIM” dialog appears.
3. Connect the phone to Emma (powered on).
4. Select the activation script.
5. When activation script is completed, shut off the phone.
6. Power on the phone and wait until “Insert SIM” dialog appears.
7. Check SIM lock settings in service menu.

The new activation service solution has the following steps:
1. Run Customize service in Emma.
2. Power on the phone and wait until “Insert SIM” dialog appears.
3. Power off the phone and remove and insert the battery.
4. Press “c” button and connect the phone to Emma. Note! "c-button or similar. G502 uses "2", W760 uses "5" etc.
5. Select the activation service.
6. When activation script is completed, power on the phone and wait until “Insert SIM” dialog appears.
7. Check SIM lock settings in service menu.

Benefits:
Simpler and faster activation flow will increase the yield significantly and reduce time to run activation.
Parallel activation possible in the same way as parallel flash.
No product unique USB drivers need to be installed. Common flash driver is enough. I.e. no user interaction required to install drivers. Will save a lot of time!

Additional information:
Using the new activation service, the (activation) script is visible even though the phone already is activated. If the script is executed (again on a phone that is already activated) it is aborted after a couple of seconds with the message that the phone already is activated and not requires to be activated. No harm done.

Activation dongle is required as usual. The dongle procedure is the same for old and new activation service.

The old way of performing activation will be available for a transition period in order for all service locations to get used to the new activation method. Please note that old method of activation will not work on HB108 products at all.

The new activation method was enabled 080707 in Emma.

SI-W350 Charging the phone via the computer

Background:
We have received information that customers sometimes have problem with charging their phone (W350) via the computer.

Solution:
If you want to be able to charge your phone via the computer by using the USB cable, you have to install the drivers by using the included CD-ROM (PC Suite) or by downloading the drivers from SONYERICSSON.COM
 
SI-G900/G700 Camera issues

Information/solution
This is information regarding camera problem for G900 and G700.

Affected phones: G700 and G900

Problem: Sometimes it's not possible to start the camera the first time after a flash or in some cases on brand new units that has never been started before.

Workaround/ Short term solution: Restart the phone one more time and the camera should start without problems

Long term solution: Is planned for the MR2 sw.

This effects RTL and MR1 sw on all kits.

S500 / W580 New Displays
Introduction
S500 / W580 has added a second source for displays. The new displays require different drivers which are included in the latest software revisions from R8Bxxx and on.
Instruction
If a new display is installed and upon powering up the unit the display looks to have issues, flash the unit with the latest software before performing any other repair actions. Once flashed, the unit
 
Background:
Unfortunately due to a calibration error a batch of R306 units will show a warning message "Serious error. Stop charging. Stop using your phone. Contact a Sony Ericsson Call Centre" when fully charged.
The cause is only a measuring problem, so there is no risk to the customer.




Solution:
The unit should be swapped since there is no way to fix the message with repair equipment.

Please send these units to SBE or according instruction from your local Sony Ericsson company.
