So what's been going on in Family Guy recently

I just recently got seasons 1-6 of Family Guy on DVD (despite the fact that it seems some episodes from season 6 from between Bill And Peter's Bogus Journey and Blue Harvest are missing from the season 6 set), and I was wondering what's been going on since I'd rather watch season 7 on DVD so I can see it uncut and uncensored, problem is though I've not kept up with FG on TV for a while now so I'm a bit lost and I've not kept up with the show that much for a while now

I know I could read up but a quick sypnosis would be great

.............uh, you do realize that Family Guy doesn't have an ongoing plot or anything right? Well, if you insist, I tell you: it's been sucking pretty darn hard lately...

I don't think you missed much. In the last few episodes, most of the humor has been based on cutaways rather than the actual plot. I think if you search the forums here, we all wrote reviews on the last few eps. But those give away too many spoilers. You might be better off checking tv.com. Just thought I'd make a few suggestions there.

Um, I don't think season seven has started yet. If you're talking about season six then....

******SPOILERS*********

A lot has happened on Family Guy this last season. First there was Blue Harvest, Seth's spoof of the original Star Wars. Definately a lot of funny moments, from poking fun of Star Wars, to characters having those sort of everyday conversation in not-so-everyday situations.

"I know some manuvers. We'll lose them."
"That's your manuver? Moving slightly to the left."
"Well, we're not in the same place we were before. That ought to confuse them."
"But you hardly moved at all. All you did was list lazily to the left. I'm pretty sure they can keep up."

"Well I'm going to go shoot some womprats in my T-16."
"My God, you shoot small animals for fun? That's the first indicator of a serial killer you freak."
"There's two suns and no women, what am I supposed to do?!"

This season Joe recieved a new pair of legs and became a total jerk once he was no longer handicapped. One of the most clever episodes of the season featured James Woods returning to get revenge on Peter for locking him inside a crate. Woods steals Peter's identity and everyone is forced to act like this major celebrity has always been Peter Griffin. That episode was nonstop laughs.

Brian's dumb girlfriend Jillian breaks up with him. Brian also puts the moves on Lois and gets into a physical fight with Peter. And finally Brian finds that he has a long lost (human) son who's a total punk.

Stewie decides to go back to his old ways and attempt to kill Lois for an episode and then follows through by taking over the world. That was some nostalgic fun.

Peter becomes overprotective of Meg for one episode, that's continuity for you. He also discovers that he's not a natural born American citizen but an illegal Mexican immigrant. And because he's a lousy husband who can't remember a single detail about Lois, his marriage isn't acknowledged to grant him citizenship. Funniest Peter segment this season, if you ask me, is when he got a stroke and tried to drive a car with only one functioning side of his body while trying to sing along to REM. You have to see that one to believe it.

So yeah, there's a lot of funny going on in the sixth season. If you're a fan, pick it up. Several episdoes start off funny but really die off towards the end but the funny parts are enough to feel satisfied.

Yeah. I'm trying to think what the last good episode was this season. That one was probably the "Stewie Kills Lois/Lois Kills Stewie" episodes. After that, things seemed to go downhill.

Family Guy does have continuity, though. For instance, Peter has changed jobs twice, and many characters have died.

Just so you know, it's not 'missing' episodes. Family Guy is in Volumes, not Season sets, so they just put however many they want to on the set and leave it at that.
