So what happened to Zuko's mother? *potential spoilers*

I'm annoyed that the finale of Avatar did not answer that. Anyone have any answers?

Here's my theory: That Azula killed her mother, and that's why she went insane (and saw her mother in the mirror), and Ozai and others covered it up. But if she's still alive, where the hell is she cause Aang and the gang basically went around the entire world so where else could she be hiding?

Problem with your theory is, it was confirmed that Ursa is alive. She was vanished from the Fire Nation and her where abouts are unknown. Ozai wouldn't lie about that, because if she was dead, Ozai would love to rub it in Zuko's face.

If Zuko was told she was dead, he would be a depressed man, and not the person we saw in the tea shop in the last scene.

We don't know where Ursa is, but I'm sure that she is alive. Not only was it confirmed during the two part chapter Day of the Black Sun, but zoombie made a good point about how Ozai would have rubbed her death in Zuko's face. My guess is that it was one of those loose strings that Mike and Bryan left there in the finale and we may find out what happens if they have any specials for Avatar planned.

Well they did go all over the world but they didn't cover every square inch of it. There's still a lot of uncharted places that Ursa could be that the gang didn't really go specifically in (or just flown over). I am sure she's alive somewhere but I guess that's a plot point we're never going to see unless they make actually more relating Avatar stuff (besides the movie. Hmmm if they did get up to a third movie based on season three it's possible they COULD resolve it then. Otherwise probably not).

She's probably hiding at a secret air nomad temple... Well that would at least open it up for other seasons/series ^_^ I thought after she was mentioned in the invasion she'd show up somewhere.

I think that she was in Omashu until the fire nation invaded. I say that because of all the places the GAang traveled that seemed to be the least explored.

Maybe now she is with the Guru that helped Aang with his chakras. i want to know what happened to him too

In my mental drift time, I think of what could have happened to all the characters in Avatar. I wonder if Sokka and Suki could have made it work, considering how committed they were to their different homes, and I am sad to think that they may not have. I think Aang and Katara took up a nomadic life with Appa and Momo, living off the land with nothing more than what they could carry and spreading their messages of peace, love, and hope (and occasionally kicking people's asses when necessary). I believe Toph became captain of the Earth King's personal guard for many years, keeping them pure and honorable with the memory of the Dai Li fresh in her mind.

I believe that Zuko's example inspired near-religious fervor among Fire Nation youth, who would ritually scar themselves over their left eye and wander the world during their teenage years as Fire Nation Knights Errant. The Zukoites would explore the nations, seeking to do good and maintain balance, and in the end they did more to redeem the reputation of the Fire Nation than even Zuko himself. They and the Kyoshi Warriors remained stalwart allies and agents of the Avatar for generations.

I believe that Azula died in prison shortly after the events of "Sozin's Comet," a raving, paranoid, and broken individual who couldn't adjust to the new world that she couldn't control, and that Firelord Zuko grieved greatly over her loss, despite all that she had done.

Uncle Iroh retired to his tea shop in Ba Sing Se and lived a long, prosperous, and peaceful life, playing pai sho every day and dispensing the finest tea and the finest advice in the city. The day of his funeral was declared a day of mourning by the Earth King himself, with the line of citizens who came to pay their respects running for miles. The day was also marked by an unexpected solar eclipse that none of the court astronomers could explain.

In the world I see, Firelord Zuko visits his father in prison on the first day of every month and asks one question: "Where is my mother?" And every month, he returns to the palace, only to go back again the next month.

Maybe.

That's pretty much the best mental drift I've ever heard. It all makes sense, it fits, and it covers pretty much all the main characters (even if some of it is sad). However:

King Bumi, after being reinstated as King of Omashu, was a regular correspondent to the Earth King in Ba Sing Se, as well as being in contact with Fire Lord Zuko. He visited the Jasmine Dragon often, along with the other members of the Order of the White Lotus. Sadly, he died in his prime, at 125, just after having written the funniest joke in the world. Some historians insist this was a coincidence.

Anyway, I think that if Ursa is still alive, she would be hiding somewhere remote, so that it would be some time before she heard that Zuko was Fire Lord and it was safe for her to return.

Sorry, I couldn't take the mental drift seriously after that. That's one of the last things Zuko would want; people purposely doing to themselves what was done to him, no matter what good they did in the world.

Not to mention I doubt after what was shown that Sokka and Suki would break up, and Mike and Bryan pretty much said that Azula, while mental, continues living after Sozin's Comet.

If that happened, I think Ozai reaction would be of no sympathy, but disappointment of her being weak. And show no compassion, no sadness at all, and for Zuko to be irate at Ozai and had to be held back by the prision guards as he lunges to attack him in his cell.

Get rid of the Zukoites scarring themselves, and Azula dying, and that'd be perfect.
Maybe Azula, after years of therapy, reaches a state of zen and peacefulness. And take up gardening.

I would love to think that everyone lives out there lives in peace, but it would be hard for everyone to accept the Fire Nation. :(
