So, uh, whats keeping MS and Sony from coming out with Wii type remotes?

Seems easy enough to come come out with motion sensor remotes for the xbox 360 and ps3. The ps3 remote already does this somewhat, right?
 
I guess they could copy Nintendo's. But it's the game developers that would freak. Would EA have to release two of every game? One that supports the new remote and one that doesn't?
 
because it's not revolutionary technology, it's been around for a long time. And through out time it's proven to be just a gimmick.

I still want a wii though.
 
First, in Sony's case, I can't imagine a company wanting to make their already highly difficult to develop for console system, even that much more difficult to develop for...

in Microsoft's case, since the two companies are neighbors in america, well, they'd never get past any number of lawsuits against them for it
 
They are banking on the tech failingm, becoming a quick lived fad, or settling itself into more of a niche market over time ... therefore not really offering competition. I don't think it's going to happen, but I really think they hope it does.

If innovative concepts and fun games keep working, and they come up with a workable control scheme for FPS games .. I really can see this becoming the new standard.

Nintendo's SNES CD was canned, we took their idea and became Playstation
We stole Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Dragon Quest, Castlevania, and Squaresoft/Enix

Hell no!

I don't want no motion sensor controller for the Xbox! The wireless controller is enough for me. Its simple and all you do is press buttons. Adding a bunch of capabilities will just complicate the gaming experience. Just leave it to the Wii & PS3 for that kinda stuff.
