Well,They Build Faster Cars Now? their salloon cars such as the CTS/CTV with their superb engines etc are really fast and could very well design an F1 car or provide engines for an F1 team why not ?
Hey Rosbit, Motorsport is where development of "road cars" take space actally in case you had not noticed, it would be a dam good way for GM to demonstrate why they should be assisted with Government money by showing a worthwhile product line to the car buying public. The likes of Honda increased market share because people like their cars performance capabilities and "reliability". Motorsport is not entirely a waste at all.
 
It may have escaped your attention, but GM are nearly broke and are about to sell off all of their overseas holdings to save the US parent company...don't think the US government will like giving them a huge bailout and then seeing it wasted on motor sport either.
 
The economy is a key factor into this kind of ventures. Especially now that the global economy is hurting. Besides, the astronomical monetary budgets of the F1 teams are difficult to obtain.
