like a few years ago, i would wake up EVERY morning and have dry heaves when i sat up, went to my doctor and got nexium. it took about a year because my doctor didnt listen when i told him what i thought it was and thought i was to young to have any acid reflux like that, he finely got a new practitioner whose first thought was to try nexium....

anyway
a lot of the time it works good but sometimes ill wake up or be trying to go to sleep and i will get the worst acid reflux. it seems to almost defy gravity, sometimes i have to sit straight up and i cant even lean to the side.

is this normal/common? could their be any other treatments that could be better for my situation? sometimes its so bad i want to put a rag on a stick and shove it down my throat to clean out the acid. i would never do that and dont even know if it would work though.;)

In addition the meRAB, there are lots of things you can do, but they can be a real pain. The basic lifestyle changes that will help you manage the reflux are:

-Raise the head of your bed 6 inches so that gravity helps keep the acid from getting into your esophagus.

-Watch your diet. Avoid caffeine, greasy fooRAB, alcohol, tomato-based fooRAB, spicy fooRAB, chocolate and anything that you notice causes your reflux to flare up.

-Eat smaller meals - don't eat until you are stuffed - and eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed.

-If you are overweight, lose the extra weight.

These changes, plus the medication, can help a lot but they take a lot of work.
