So If Jesus, Likely, Looked Nothing Like His Portrayed Images Then...?

Wouldnt that make any accounts of seeing jesus whether in a dream, "vision", church, or umm toast not even the least bit credible (even in a religious context), considering no one even knows what jesus looked like... Therefore would be unable to recognize him even if he was sitting on their face?...

and those that "hear" jesus may be even less credible....
@onelm0 - True, that would be hard to miss... However the imagination is powerful. nd knows both sun and face, therefore can easily combine the two.... Did you know, the worlds most powerful hallucinogenic is made naturally in our own brain... It is called dimethyltryptamine or dmt...

When I was 5, I absolutely believed I saw the easter bunny when I woke up in the middle of the night before easter...

If you want to believe something badly enough, your mind will allow you to. If all your mind has to go by are renaissance era paintings of a guy who looks like Fabio... that's what you'll see.

I'm not a christian, but for the sake of argument, if Jesus was god he could make himself look like whatever he wanted. So, he could choose an appearance that the person would be familiar with and recognize.

When a person has an emptiness inside of them, they try to fill it with something. I filled mine with the love of Jesus, some look at pictures that are only an interpretation of what someone believes He looks like. You may find this interesting. I did.

Go to age eight, second picture from the left.

I love this picture. its a painting of Jesus done by a little girl named Akiane at the age of 8. she is now 16. She is believed to have had visions of heaven. One thing I personally notice is that this painting is much different than a lot of the Jesus pictures you see out there. Also in my amateur opinion, I think this painting makes Jesus look more Jewish, which seems more accurate. I have read about a little boy who believes he spent time in heaven with Jesus. He and his family both believe this strongly.
It happened during a very in depth surgery the little boy was having.
Afterwards the boy knew things a regular 4 year old would not know about heaven. Things that are backed up by scripture.
The boy was even shown many pictures of Jesus and found flaws with almost all of them.
This painting is the only one the little boy said looked like Jesus.

Well, Gum drop:

Like Muslims, the Jews shunned images, but the Greeks and Romans were big on it.

Accordint to the church historian, Eusebius, there were many representations of the Savior. He saw some in color, too, and in his home town of Caeserea, there was a life-sized bronze statue of Jesus with a woman touching His garment. This was located in front of her house.

One and only one has survived antiquity. It is a sketch of an engraving of Jesus on sapphire. View this picture of Jesus at http://revelado.org/likeness.htm

Blessings, Messiah

You are right, Gum drop. People like to portray him as having a beard and long hair and looking like an American actor. The bible plainly says that he was clean shaven with short hair and was so ordaniary that he could not be picked from a crowd.

True; even Paul had to ask who it was that was talking to him on the road to Damascus. Though when we see Jesus face-to-face in His full glory--not just in a vision--we will not be able to deny who He is, let alone wonder who He is.

Your Father in Heaven provided the only way He will accept for your sins to be completely forgiven, now. He is absolutely righteous (just). He must punish sin, all sin; otherwise He would be unjust to punish some sin but not others. No one “deserves” His forgiveness, only His punishment; all have sinned. However, if He provides the way for your sins to be forgiven, why not accept His way? He didn’t have to and you will never be good enough on your own to deserve His forgiveness. None of us could be.
All He asks is that you confess the many ways you have offended Him - all the lies, thefts, lusting, hateful speech and thoughts, greed, unforgiveness, etc. Turn from these things truly sorry from your heart, turn *to* God and ask His forgiveness. He will! Then trust that your Father in Heaven only accepts Jesus’ sufferings on the cross as the full punishment your sins deserved!
Why not do these things right now and start down the path to freedom today? The way has been made for you!

I agree. There are things we know from the Bible, such as Jesus having long hair, which makes the Catholic art where we came up with the accepted image of Him, false. The Bible teaches clearly that Jesus did not have long hair.

How right you are. You nor I nor anyone else was here when all that transpired so none of us are really more credible than our own ability to understand the principals involved. Those, wherever they came from are sound Christian principals on which to base life if one wants. We have evolved way beyond the need to force people to believe the way we do so we come into this mostly because we want to. And this representation of him in all those religious pictures and stuff. Nobody forces you to look at them and what most see when they do look at them is not Jesus the person so much as a representation that helps us maintain some sort of thought reminder of the ideas and concepts found by the stimulation of such idols. It really is no big thing. The interesting thing about this idea is that you don't have to believe any of it if you don't want, we wont chop your head off for it.
