So I was riding my bike today and...?

I rode on the street and there we these two guys maybe 18 or 20 years old maximum and when I passed they were smiling, and on my way back I took the street straight across them (parallel) and one of them yelled out "Hey, change your gear!" I didn't say anything back because at first I didn't understand what they had said. So, we they just being jerks, or trying to be helpful? /:
