I had lunch with my fiancee's dad today because he said there were certain things he wanted to discuss.
She's pregnant. We just found out. I understand that her dad is worried and most of the talk was about whether or not I was prepared to be a dad and I think, because he knows my dad wasn't a very good person, he was trying to give me fatherly advice about being a Dad since he knew I wouldn't get it elsewhere.
When he asked what she was going to do about her night job (bartending) since she's now pregnant, I told her that she was quitting it and I was going to pick up the slack.
Then he asked how much I make at my job. I was a little offended by the question, so I didn't give a clear answer. I said "I make enough that she and your grandchildren (she has one son already from a previous relationship) won't have to worry about or need anything."
Dinner was over pretty quick after that and he seemed sort of put-off because I didn't answer the question with a specific dollar amount. Was I wrong?
How do I fix it so it doesn't cause problems between my fiancee and I?
