Smoke coming from engine, 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The past few days I've noticed a new sound coming from my engine, it isn't a squeal, but it sounds like something is rubbing on something else. I'm not mechanically inclined, but I popped my hood to see if anything was clearly out of order, and when I did this, I saw some white smoke coming from the drivers side area of the engine bay. It wasn't thick smoke, it kind of looked like someone breathing in the cold, but there was a strong smell of something burning. No lights have come on, like check engine, and the car seems to be running just fine. I have an appointment scheduled on Monday, but I would like to be prepared with some possibilities before going in so I'm informed. If you need more details just request them.
Another thing that is probably related, I live in South Dakota, and about a week or two ago it was friggin cold in the morning, about -20 or -30, and when I went to start my engine, I heard a loud "ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" high squeal from the approximate area I'm hearing the sound and seeing the smoke.

The jeep was last at the mechanics 5-6 weeks ago for an oil change.
