smart2go vs tomtom 6

Well I had to give my 2c, until RC comes with his video comparison...

I absolutely hate smart2go, its re-routing is crap, for example if you decide to go a different route, it will force you to take side roads to get you back to the main road you missed, even though there is another major road you can take like 500 yards ahead... also beware of the POI's it has, I was not impressed with them and some of them are wrongly placed on the map.

Otoh, TomTom seems to offer the best navigation, reroutes are good so far, but it lacks POI's I am used to go to, etc. One of the best thing in TomTom6 was I was supposed to go to lunch and halfway on the road, there was a slow train and the road was blocked, so I do a u-turn, and tomtom rerouted the next road to take, and it was really nice... of course a good comparison would be to run both tomtom and smart2go side by side to see what each would give you, unfortunately I do not have two s60 phones + gps to try it, I think that would be the fairest comparison.

So far having tested both this past week, I give Smart2Go a 2.5 Star out of 5 and 4.5 star out of 5 for tomtom6.

To be honest i wouldn't even entertain the Smart2Go option no way i am going to start paying anything for voice directions, I must say am also a little surprised that you say POI'S are lacking as they most certainly aren't for the UK version in fact there are so many i only use the speed camera's and activate the others when needed. Maybe it is different for the USA version but have you selected and configured them in the Poi's Menu? IMO Tom Tom is the best Sat Nav solution by far and have been using it for a long time now first with version 5 and now 6 since launch and am more than happy with it's performance.

And then you start singing the praises of TomTom which costs >$100? I don't understand.

I haven't tried voice directions on Smart2go and it is definitely lacking wrt POI in the USA. But I'm pretty happy to have a free GPS mapping solution.
 
TomTom & Smart2Go offer both ok POI's in the US, but there are outdated POI's, or even POI's that are not available for places that have been around for 2+ years now.

I have to say that talking to my friends in Europe they're very happy with TomTom's POI, must be that they still have not caught up with all the POI's available in the US. But overall I am pleased with it more.

Tom Tom USA costs $150, but you can get it cheaper on Ebay.

I can also say with absolute certainty that Smart2Go is still a beta, whereas TomTom has been around for a while and is certianly NOT beta. Smart2Go will be getting improvements along the way, I've heard that by August it will be closer to the full fledged thing.

I've used them both extensively, and I'd say it depends alot on how you use it. They both have GREAT aspects and they both have some crappy aspects. If you're going about everything legally, Smart2Go has the upper hand, by far.

Sorry i don't get you? a one of charge of ?60 and no additional running costs for the best Sat Nav solution is fine by me as you only get what you pay for in life. Unlike the Nokia Smart2Go solution where you get free maps but on route planning will incur Data charges and if you want or need voice directions you are going to have to pay for them each time even if it's the same journey I'm sure even over a Year it will end up costing more. But everyone is free to use what ever solution they choose, but i know which one I'm sticking with and in the long run will cost me the least with the best results.

Both have their benefits. I use both on a regular basis. When I'm in my car and I need to be directed to a certain destination, TomTom is the only way to go. If im walking, driving in an area where I don't need Nav, or riding my bike, I use Smart2Go because the overhead maps, I find, are better displayed.

Integrated into one of these programs. Speed vs. Distance/Time Graphs. Saving trips into a calendar for future comparison. Exporting to KML to use in Google Earth.
