Small lump under a puncture wound?

My 3 1/2 year old son was playing with a family member's Yorkshire Terrier and was scratched on the apple of his cheek. The wound was cleaned, but became infected. He went into the hospital where they told me he had cellulitis and an infection which they would test. He was there for 3 days on antibiotics, tests showed he had staphylococcus aureus. The wound did drain everyday that he was there and a bit when we got back home. They prescribed him antibiotics and gave him an appointment to see his doctor one week later. After the puss drained and only clear liquid came out on its own, it stopped and scabbed up.

After it scabbed I noticed a small lump just under the wound. At his appointment with his doctor, she told me she sees some puss in there and to just clean off the scab with soap and warm water and to put pressure around the lump to drain it. She said it would take a few days. I've been putting heat compresses on the wound 3 times a day for 15 to 20 minutes for the last 2 1/2 days as well as cleaning the scab off and putting some pressure around it so that it would drain. I've haven't had any luck and was wondering if there is anything more I could do. He was also prescribed a stronger antibiotic that the staph infection is susceptible to. He has another appointment on Thursday to check his progress.

My question is: Should I wait until his next doctors appointment or go to the his doctor tomorrow since I will be in the area? I'm a little worried that I might not be able to get it to drain out.
