I'm having difficulty reaching the turn signal with my thumb, particulary when I have the clutch pulled in (my fingers are too short). Are there any tips you can offer me, or any adjustments I can make?
There is no clutch lever adjustment on the S50. Unless you fabricate a way to move the directional switch, you are pretty much stuck with what you have.
I always tried to make sure that my turn signal was activated before I pulled in the clutch (apparently my thumbs are freakishly short). Of course, with my current bike, that's not a problem.. Maybe my short thumbs come from my German heritage - everything is falling into place now!
I just feel like I'm turning it on too soon, sometimes. Or if I'm sitting at a red light and realize I don't have it on, I have to shift into neutral or let go of the brake. It's just a nuisance, but I can deal with it.
When sitting at a light, you may be able to reach across with your throttle hand and turn the blinker on/off. You would need to keep the bike in place with the foot brake while doing this.
One time I was so cold riding last fall that my fingers were basically useless. To signal , I had to pull my left hand off the bar and knock the switch over with the heel of my hand! I couldn't bend my neck to do a shoulder check. To touch the brake, I had to reach down and move my leg physically forward a bit to reach the brake!!
Oh, but what fun I had!!
And I've got a story to tell for the next forty years (each time longer than the last!)
I don't know if that's the same as the Kuryakyn ISO grips but I have those and it doesn't help that problem, but it's great and is much less strain on my small hands than the stock grips!
This is a problem I've dealt with since I first got my S50 and I've been signaling soon or using my clutch hand, neither has been a problem. Someone told me how I could probably attach a small "housing unit" with an "extension" onto it, homemade of course and it would look funny but I haven't gotten around to piecing that together. Maybe someday I will.
