O.K I feel Its the time to get of this drug slowly.
Im 18 and Started having reflux at age 16.5 and putted on PPI.
My reflux is under control now with 1 PPI drug daily.
All my life untill age 16 I never chewed food properly I could take 2 bites and swalow the big peace. I was eating Junk food like crazy.
So at age 16 I was about gaining weight(bodybuilding), So I started eating food like never before without chewing it and realizing what I am doing to my digestive system bonus to this I was eating before bedtime.

Suddenly I expirienced acid reflux and it got so worse till my esophagus inflamed. Doc gave me PPI.

Now its 1.5 year on PPI I started chewing food eating small frequent portions of food, not eating before bedtime. and my reflux is kinda under control.

I usualy take 30mg lansprazol daily.

My plan is to start taking day 30mg second day 15mg for 1weak.
Next Weak taking 30mg second day nothing.
and continue with day on day off for about a month till gastrin hormone goes little bit down then do 1 day on 2 days off for month.
then stop PPI for good??
What you say on this idea?
Will this help me with getting with small rebound effect??

Because I really really want to stop taking this drugs !!

Doing the skipping days thing is a good plan. But it might be easier to do 1 day 15 one 30 for a while, then just 15 every day for a while, then one on one off for a while. If your rebound symptoms are severe, slow down, or you can use Tums or Zantac to step down even slower.

Still, you'll get there. It took me 5 months to quit completely, but I did it and I'm totally free now. It feels great.

I think Jane has the right idea on how to go about doing this. I am now nearly five months off PPI's and just beginning to feel "normal" without medications. I think and hope that weaning oneself more slowly like Jane did can still lead you to the same goal in the end without as much suffering as I went through for two straight months. I cut down too fast and experienced pretty terrible rebound for nearly three months.

No rush!

I wish you all the luck in the world. At your age, please, please try your best. Don't take these pills longer than you have to. I have taken them for about 9 years and want to go off badly.

All the best!

Rosebloom is right. My 5-month detox was pretty easy. I had some increase in stomach discomfort, but nothing to write home about.

I was initially on 2 Prilosec per day. Then, I started taking 1 on odd nurabered days and 1 on even nurabered days. But the back-and forth dosing seemed to be unhelpful, so I went to 1 Prilosec every day and 4 (75mg) Zantac. Then 1 prilosec and 3 Zantac, then 2, then 1. When I got down to one Prilosec and no Zantac and felt okay, I repeated the process.

At one point I caught a bad cold and halted the taper entirely for two weeks, because coughing was irritating my stomach. Then, when I recovered, I went back to the plan. Initially I was hoping to finish by New Years, but it wound up taking until mid-January.

Still, I got there. And without agonizing rebound symptoms. It can be done.
