I was editing some video when the application crashed, i was not too worried about this as sometimes it happens, so i did a ctrl, alt and delete to end the process, then i remembered i had downloaded a trail of 'dvd creator 6' and decided to install it to see what it was like, so i unpacked it (as it was a zp file) and installed it, it went through the process ok, when it finished it asked if i wanted to open the application so i clicked on 'yes' but it would not open i went to the desktop and clicked on the shortcut but still it would not open, i then went to 'start, all programs' and tried to open it there but no luck, everything else associated with this application like user guide would open but not the application it self so i decided to restart my pc and i noticed the o/s loading screens was slower than usual and when it did get to my desktop the desktop background picture loaded as usual but all the application and taskbar took ages to load, anyway i tried dvd creator 6 but still no luck so i uninstalled it, then i noticed all my flv. and vob files had changed from the usual icon to one that can only be described as like a page with the corner folded over a box on this page with a blue border at the top with 3 little white boxes on the right in this blue border and in the centre of the box 3 underlined images (which i could not make out) clicking on these will not open them in their associated applications or play in any media player,luckily i can open them in a video converter to convert them back, i then noticed in the program files on the c drive that all the programs i have installed on my pc has had some of their icons changed to this one as well, luckily all but one program will open normally using the shortcut on the desktop anybody know whats happened here and how to stop it happening again or how to get it back to normal, thanks all.

right just done a system restore and things seem to be ok, but still like to know what happened
