Hello. I've recently been having some problems with streaming LARGE movie files. Youtube.com and similar sites have no issues at all, every video (regardless of size/length) downloads in seconds. However when I try to stream a full movie online it buffers to 100% plays 1-3 seconds of the movie and then needs to buffer again. Even if I pause the movie and allow buffering of 10-15 minutes, I still only get 2-5 minutes of viewable material before having to buffer again. I've done everything I could think of to fix this issue.
I'm receiving a 25Mbps connection from Cox Cable. However I receive a MUCH higher speed.
(I can and will post speed test links if asked.)
I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 as anti-virus, which has removed all worms/viruses/trojans.
I use SUPERanti-spyware / Malwarebyte's Anti-malware, which has taken care of 'all' my spyware/malware issues. ( I don't not run these 2 programs simultaneously)
I have cleaned/repaired my registry.
I have defragmented my hard drive, I do so once every 2 weeks or so.
I clear my history/cookies/etc after nearly every use.
All of my drivers are up to date.
Please Note: None of the programs listed are blocking anything required to use/view these movies.
Everything else works fine, games, file downloads, and as I said before youtube, and similar sites have NO issues at all.
System Information
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Dell DXP051
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM ( 2GB )
Hard drive: 460GB
Page File: 640MB used, 2781MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi
I hope someone can help me with this. I know it isn't the location I'm streaming from as I've tried this on a much older computer running on XP, with MUCH lower system specs and the same internet connection that can download these movies just as easily as a youtube video etc, after only 10-20 seconds of buffering. (The movie does not load FULLY in that time, however it plays through without stopping to buffer.)
I forgot to mention I have tried disabling hardware acceleration, increasing virtual memory size etc. with no results.
If anyone could help me with this I would be greatly in your debt. Thank you for your time!
- J.
The websites do in-fact have "Premium" services. However I've tried this on several other PCs, my own, and also friends and had no issues with the streaming speed, none of which were registered to the website(s)
