hi. first and foremost, i am falling in love with this e62 i have... the only problem is, i find it quite slow/laggy.

i have a cingular 8125 (htc wizard) and it's as slow as slow can be, but the nokia e62, which i expected to be lightning fast (like a blackberry) feels sluggish, only barely beating the 8125. is my unit defective?

thank you.

I have an E61 and it also feels SLOW specially when compared to my 6230 which is instant. The browser though is amazing and reason enough to buy.

This is normal for Symbian phones as of late.

The E61/E62 are supposedly the fastest Symbian phones as well in the market currently (lol)

Get a blackberry for a faster experience

install this app and let's see the actually speed of the e62

the e61 is different from the e62... just cause the e62 is slow does not mean the e61 is also slow..

lol of course comparing it to the 6230 the e61 is slow.. heck comparing a 6230 to a 6230i and the 6230i is turtle pace as well

I'll admit, I've never used a Blackberry. I see it as a coming-of-age for a businessman, when you get your blackberry. HOWEVER....

Comparing the E62 to the 8125 is the most accurate comparison in this thread thus far. They're both smartphones in the aspect that they're really miniature computers. The 6230 is absolutely ridiculous to compare it to, kinda like comparing a Ninja to a Ford Ranger. Yeah, they have roughly the same size engines, but the Ninja is using the power in entirely different ways.

And blackberries, as I understand, are truly little more than email-centric non-smartphones. You can install Java on them, but that's about it. In that case, I would classify them as regular phones. They don't have the ability to install apps, really. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

However, s60 phones (and the 8125, for that matter) SHOULD be pretty zippy. If you've got a Motorola anything next to it, and THAT"S faster, then yeah, you've got a slow unit. Other than that, expect a slight delay.

Why can't you install apps for a blackberry? You can get IM programs (pdaapps.com), weather tools, etc........ for blackberry, not as java apps.

compared to S60 2nd and 1st ed. units, E61 is fast... well, most of the menu is fast, except there are times that opening address book takes long, specially if i have closed it and not running in the background, but in general all S60 3rd ed. is fast enough that it made me jump from the 6230 to S60... and take it from a guy who has been waiting for a long time for S60 to be fast enough as the 6230 menu...

I have briefly played with an E62 (locked to Rogers). It's demonstrates much more lag than my E61.

I wonder if the 3G/WiFi are not the only hardware components that are missing/different ?

It's a shame because I think the bulk of E-Series devices sold in North America will be the E62 via the carriers.

I really hope that Nokia adds a camera to the next E Series (and fixes the light sensor issues), it is such an amazing yet underrated device.

possible, but it is also possible that they have slowed down the processor to save more on bat life... or the e62 fw is simply needing upgrade

Horsepower and Performance

The Nokia E62 has a Texas Instruments OMAP 235 MHz CPU. We felt that the E62 is a bit slower than the E61, and there is a delay when opening folders and launching applications that's similar to Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC phones like the Cingular 8125, MDA and iPAQ hw6915. It's not as snappy as the Palm OS Treo PDA phones or the BlackBerry 8700 series models but it's not unbearably slow by any means. BlackBerry users are accustomed to instant response, and they're the ones who will likely notice. The phone has 80 megs of flash memory available for storage and typically 15.8 megs of free RAM to run programs just after booting compared to the E61's 22.5 megs of free RAM. That said, the E62 runs out of memory less often than older Series 60 devices and does better than the N80 on web browser stability.

Battery is the same and since the E62 isn't 3G or has wifi you get even better battery life out of it. They claim up to 3'ish days. That's nice for a PDA phone with a beautiful screen like that.
