Hi all. The past few weeks I've been having to wake up to take ventolin multiple times in the night. However I noticed last night that if I sleep on my back as opposed to my side that I remain symptom free(I try to stay on my back, but I've slept on my side my whole life, hard to break the habit).

Have any of you all experienced this? Do you think it's from allergens on my bedding of which I'm getting a higher dose on my side?

It is normal for asthmatics to sleep better on the back than sides or stomach, particularly propped up some on pillows. It just helps you breathe better in that position. You might try a puff of the rescue inhaler before going to bed for a couple of nights to see if that helps.

I actually ended up moving my mattress out of the back bedroom of the apartment it was in. There was no circulation back there and once I moved closer to the AC unit (even though it wasn't running at night) I was able to get a lot better sleep.

on an unrelated note. My doc gave me a sample of Advair and while it helped me sleep really well the first night, I had an asthma attack the next day and it damn near killed me. Typically any asthma symptoms I have clear up immediately with a dose of Ventolin but the Advair was keeping me from getting any relief. I don't know how they can get away with selling that stuff.

Advair is a preventer and takes a couple of weeks to begin acting. I would doubt it had anything to do with an attack the day after beginning it...unless, of course, you are allergic to it which is a different matter altogether.

Hi Everyone
I, on the other hand seem to gave problems sleeping on my back because I find the congestion is worse and I cough more.
Good luck and I hope your asthma improves.

Actually it seems one of the side effects is "fatal asthma attacks". seems like I'm in that group cause I'd never had an asthma attack that bad.
