Can someone just give me an idea? What event in history could have influened vonnegut to write the novel Slaughterhouse Five. I was gonna use the battle of the bulge but its way to hard to write about. What event in history pertians to one of the themes of the novel?

Vonnegut seemed very affected by the bombing of Dresdan. It was basically a non-militarized city which the allies bombed to simply take the fight out of the germans. "The German" weren't the ones making the decisions, though - Hitler was. So it had little effect other than devastate many beautiful works of art and architecture. Vonnegut saw the stupidity in this and the horrible waste and became a very vocal anti-war voice.
