Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow

You're not wrong (gah! The trailer!) but apparently it's been gettting some positive praise elsewhere on the net.

If it's getting anywhere near Van Helsing, it's gonna be pummelled into oblivion.

When I first heard about this one I thought it was going to be a cool Metropolis/AI-style thriller, not Jude Law doing Dan Dare......but it still looks OK without being a mega smash hit.

We watched this last night on DVD and thought it was pretty good (not great but good). It seems to have been really unfairly panned by certain critics, and you can see where it could be tightened up in places, but its nowhere near as bad as the reviews.

The only thing wrong with it is the bum-wrenchingly slow pace: it's as though the director couldn't bear to part with a single frame after putting in so much work. :)

Yeah why not, the 2-disc special edition has a few fun extras such as bloopers and how they made the whole film with green and blue screen...quite impressive.
