I'm in the NY national guard. I have served for almost three years now and have never missed a drill. My ETS date is coming up in two weeks. We have drill this weekend, which would be my last ever drill with the National Guard. I decided to skip it, though, because I have midterms starting on Monday and I really need to study. I know it's silly to skip the last drill but I cannot afford to do poorly on these midterms. I told my NCOIC of my plans via email the day before and I let him know that I understood that I should expect to be coded AWOL. He did not respond, but I'm sure he got the message - we communicate via email just about daily. My question is, with two weeks left until my ETS date, what sort of consequences am I looking at for this? I know that I made a decision that is wrong, but I felt I had to make my own priorities on this and accept whatever consequences come. Am I jeopardizing the status of my discharge by missing my last drill?
