Skins US version - Promo released

To the american who hasn't seen the original, it'll look alright as it's pretty much the standard US teen drama.

Despite the format being identical something is off...not sure if i'll make it past the first episode out of curiosity.

I think it's weird and bad to us lot because they've used exact same characters and storylines, so nothing is going to be better. Out of the two though i think i'm going to look forward to seeing Shameless US more.

There is already a Being human re-make about to air in the US, so you know they'll re-make misfits with it winning a Bafta pretty much made it fast track

With Skins US, they should have at least adapted it into a more US youth culture [no adding cheerleaders does not make it original], i'm not sure if they can relate to the boozing/cider culture among the youth we have here.

at least the us shameless will probably stay true to what made the british one great(swearing, sex and drugs) looks like this Skins is just going to be one tree hill with skins(ish) story lines.

Imagine the first episode cut up into 2 minutes. With American accents. That's it.

I'm a bit dissappointed they've gone for a shot-by-shot remake. It means anyone who watched the original isn't really going to be able to take much out of it. A Cassie who isn't Hannah Murray just won't sit right with me.

I'm sure they'll go their own route in time, but even that will seem odd. I'd rather they just transplanted the philosophy and built a new generation of original characters with original stories - but I guess MTV would consider that too risky.

OROROROR

MTV US could just show SKINS UK the girls in skins 1 uk were a lot prettier and the guys

F this is sh!t
this is just skins the crappy USA remake basicly they cant even change there characters and create there own stories for the pilot:eek: thats shockingly bad.

considering skins is basicly a changing characters every 2 years show

Though like here from the trailer it seems to have missed the whole point of the show it's re-imagining, I *might* give the Shameless US version a go because they're using storylines and cast from the (excellent) first few series of the (once great) UK version but this, no, too awful, looks like any other American teen drama / comedy.

As for Being Human US, not sure yet, I'll wait till it's aired and reviewed before I decide that.

The UK version of Skins couldn't air on America's MTV without heavy censorship. The US Shameless will at least be on a subscription channel where the producers can do what they want.

"National pride" is not a characteristic i'd normally equate with a Brit. Tbh it's nothing to do with pride, merely if you insist on doing a re-make at least match it in quality to the original otherwise what is the point?

As an outside observer of Britain and Brits, I know exactly what you mean by that.:D And yet, anytime America is involved in an issue, Brits --- or at least many Brits -- often demonstrate an interesting kind of superiority/inferiority complex, which is fascinating to me because as a Canadian I can say that we have the same thing in our country, but in a different way.

And yet note how quickly people here are PRE-judging the quality of something they haven't even seen. They've seen a trailer. That's it. Just the IDEA of American remakes offend many Brits. They don't have to see them to make up their minRAB. Also, I think the quality of something is something about which people will disagree, and there is a tendency for cultural bias to come in to play: people will usually like something tailored for their own national/cultural group more than something tailored for the likes and biases of a group of people alien to them. Which of course answers the question of why do a remake at all.
