SK3 vs. motorola Q

I'll be starting college in the fall, and right now I have a t-mobile sidekick 3. I can't decide if I should switch back to verizon and get a Q (the main thing stopping me is that I just got the sidekick in december, so if I switch that's $300 down the drain + the $200 deactivation fee from t-mobile on top of buying a new phone from verizon). Am I better off just keeping the phone I have now, or would it be worth it to switch to the Q?

Would you do anything different with the Q that you don't do with the SK3?

Oddly enough, the "starting college in the fall, what phone should I get" questions show up many times every summer. I have yet to understand the connection between starting college and wanting to get a smartphone. Personally, I find it easier to write down assignments than create tasks and type the details into my phone.

Lol braindead. With the PPCs you can actually type word documents on the go. Also it everyone looks at there phone at least once a day. I am a manager at at&t and can't remember one time I remembered to check a To-Do list I wrote down, rather than seeing a message pop-up on my phone informing something is due.

I would say to stay with the sidekick 3 if money is a concern and yes you are throwing money out the window. You can attempt to sell you kick3 online, either e-bay or craigslist.org. You will still lost money, but not as much.

I'm well aware of what smartphones can do, my phone can read, edit and create word and excel files as well as view powerpoint presentations and pdf documents.

Anyway, my point was, I know a lot of people who think they need a smartphone to help them organize their assignments, but most teachers give you a list of assignments or will tell you at the end of class when it's inconvenient to sit there and type it out on a phone (if your class isn't in a lecture hall, most professors would consider it quite rude to be using your phone during class).

All of this is assuming the OP is planning to use it for assignments

I do understand your point, but I don't think I "need" a PDA to help me organize, but it does help. Also the OP may be trying to impress some girls... hehe. Maybe with a tochscreen device, "what's your number?" ... lol.

OP, please specify the reasoning for wanting to switch. That would be most helpful. What features are you looking for or was I right in saying it's for the "cool" factor?

This may be stupid, but I feel like the sidekick looks really childish or immature. Plus, my family has a plan with verizon, so my dad is paying an unnecessary extra bill for me to have t-mobile

I'm a big blackberry fan personally. 20 years old, in college and working. Without the phone and it's calendar I would forget a few more things, but I wouldn't call it necessary (I made it through a year and a half of school without it).

I know exactly how you feel... 1. Feeling childish, although grown folk use it. 2. That I still have my sidekick 3 and t-mobile, not under contract, paying the bill every month, but not using the phone. I'm actually staring at it while typing this... I was supposed to cancel my account 5 months ago.

If you put it that way, I guess you could go with the Q or even the Treo 700WX. I personally love my 750 (at&t) without a stub antenna and smaller form factor the the 700 series.
