I went to a local CVS with a roll of porta 400vc in hand.
Upon entering the place I found a conveniently short line to the photo lab woman. After a short wait, I then inquired about a roll of B&W 400TX they had in their 35mm film display. I wanted to know what process they used to develop the black an white films they sold. She said," Oh, we don't use and processes. We Just put it in that machine back there, (she points to a large copy machine looking thing), and It comes out black and white". I smile and thank the woman for her time, and leave.
Does anyone here with film developing knowledge/experience know what exactly "that machine" does to roll of non-C41 black and white film? I thought black and white films required special d76,t-max,x-tol or etc chemicals to develop correctly?
Would It be wise to trust them with irreplaceable snapshots of lives and events that will be forever lost lest we capture it on an unforgiving roll of black and white media?
