Sin City on BBC2 tonight

Sin city is going to premiere on BBC2 tonight. I have seen it once before and thought it was quite good. I will be watchin' it again tonight.

From the huge cast, Mickey Rourke as Marv, Bruce willis as Hartigan and Nick Stahl as Roark Jnr were particular good.

Although I had never read the comics it was based on, i still found it to be a unique movie experience with the way it was made in a comic-book style and all the dialogues and scenes were like they were taken straight out a comic-book word for word.

what does everyone else think of this movie?

Both are great films, I would probably suggest you watch Gladiator and record Sin City if you want to see it again. I would actually rate Gladiator a bit higher than Sin City though.

Paddy :D

That's because it was, barely anything was changed from the comics, just a few things cut out. If you're bored one day, grab the comics and play the film on DVD whilst reeading the books, it's like some weird mind-**** commentary! You'll have to skip a few pages every now and then as they cut some pretty big speeches and smaller kills out of the film.

It's basically the film cut up (and with a few scenes added) to make it into three short films (and a teeeeeensy one). These are now pretty much exactly as they appear in the comic books.

If it's anything like the R1 release, the set also has the full (combined) theatrical version too. Well worth a pop if you're a fan of Frank Miller.

Did BBC2 show it uncut?

It was a very dark and violent film (although the violence was so over the top as not to be graphic - if you know what I mean)

i think sin city is so over rated.

so what if it looks exactly like the comic??

it is repetetive and misogynistic in the extreme - ALL the women are whores or victims. coupled with the women in dusk til dawn and the eye candy in desperado, i think RR has serious issues with women

The issues are Millar's, not Rodriguez's.

I love Sin City as a piece visual of art, and a homage to film noir - but Millar's portrayal of women in all his books (and so this film) has always been something of a worry. The victim/whore thing has long since been commented upon in his work. The man has (comic book) issues.

I didn't 'get' this film. I watched it a while ago, and because of the good reviews, i stuck with it. But i really didnt understand the big deal made of it. I thought it was boring to the extreme.

I wouldn't go that far, but it only barely managed to hold my interest. I think that's partly because I had no strong sense of the rules and limitations. People seemed able to jump from tall builRAB or survive car crashes as if they were super-heroes. Eg it wasn't clear why that guy killed himself rather than die at least trying to get the boss.

Also because it was mostly black and white. If you want to retain my interest in a black and white film, it better have a good plot.

Repeated violence isn't thrilling. It's dull.
