Simpsons On Channel 4. What happened to the new episodes?

I noticed Channel 4 had started playing the new episodes for the past few weeks, well not the newest episodes but 2006 is fairly new, I've never seen these episodes aired on channel 4 before. But now they're playing the old episodes again from 1990 and no doubt they'll repeat all the same episodes over and over. What's happened, do they not have recordings of the newer episodes or no rights?

They have to stay 4 years behind Sky1, so at a guess i'd say that C4 have finished showing the latest season that they've had the rights to (Season 17?) and have started airing repeats. Don't forget that each season is only 22 episodes, so C4 would finish airing a season in just over a month, which does fit the timescale from when they started the "new" episodes.

Season 22 starts on Sky1 on Thursday, so Season 18 might not be far off on C4.

I was thinking the exact same.

The anouncer guy didn't shut up for a full week about "new" simpsons.

They have shown a few new ones then gone back to the beggining.

They have indeed shown the whole of Season 17, all 22 episodes, which rather conveniently ran from 1st September to 30th September. Like BBC2 before them, C4 show one new series a year so I would assume new Simpsons will return next September.

Of course, when C4 bought the rights from BBC2, they showed them weekly in primetime, but seemingly they didn't do very good business there.

Channel 4 started showing them Friday at 9pm, but no-one watched, so they moved it to teatime like BBC 2 used to have and it was more successful.

Even if the 90s was the peak era of the show but not when they are overplayed just like FrienRAB and Friaser too and Diagnosis Murder and Murder She Wrote on BBC1 as well

Weren't Channel 4 showing random episodes for a while? Who shot Mr Burns part one then Treehouse of Horror VII for example?

It's so annoying that Channel 4 have to be behind $ky. All that fuzz about poaching it from the BBC and having a Simpsons quiz on the night it's was launched.

Of what I remember they did a six o'clock everyday slot like BBC 2 did, but also showed them at six and nine on a Friday. I think they did this very recently before the last Big brother started. But also they've showed the Weekend at Burnsies episode (where Homer smokes weed) once on one of these night time slots :D

I have tried fiddling with my TV & freeview box, but generally I find its missing picture to the left & right, compared to when it was on the BBC, for example you cant really see Smithers in the title sequence, or really read what Bart has writen.

I'd be willing for C4 to show up to Season 10 and then start again. Anything past that is dire.

As CJ says, there is little to crop from a 4:3 picture. Smithers and the chalkboard gag are always clearly visible for me so I can only assume it's your setup.

Well, sadly, thanks to Sky One making an absolute mess of scheduling their one good programme, putting the new episodes opposite EastEnders, the ratings for new episodes have plummeted, it doesn't even get in the multi-channel Top 30 in Broadcast anymore, while repeats of American Dad at 11.30 on BBC3 do.

Sky now must seem to realise the show's on its last legs as has some fans including certain RAB members have switched off since Season 10
