I feel like I've got a decent grasp on functions, but this homework problem is confusing me... what exactly am I being asked here?

14. If f(x) is an even function, simplify the expressions:

a) f(x) + f(-x)

b) f(x) - f(-x)

Best answer goes to anyone who can help me understand how to tackle this.

Thanks!
Thanks, guys! I should have realized this was so simple. I will award a best answer to one of you as soon as Yahoo! lets me.
