I'm a new guitar player (about 2 months), and I've just started to be able to play basic songs. I can switch cords pretty quickly and well, and I'm starting to have some fun with it. I've been playing basic songs, they tell you the cord and when to strum (like on certain words, between words). The written pattern is very basic, repetitive, and boring. So while I was messing around I figured out that if I add my own type of rythm to the cords the song sounds alot better and its much more fun to play. My question is this...is it normal to do this? In other words, do more advanced songs tell you exactly what rythm to strum to, or do you make it up yourself? I'm just curious. (My song is Yesterday by the Beatles)
