Sim card swapping

A couple weeks ago I bought a Samsung SGH-A107 from my local AT&T store as a go phone. But I got bored with it and wanted something a little nicer so I went and talked to the guy at the store. He said if I bought a different phone I could just swap the sim cards and it would work. I got on ebay and bought an unlocked solstice and it arrived today, I popped the sim card in it and when I turned it on I got a message on the screen saying "Sim card failed" and can only do emergency calls now.

Basically wanting to know if I did something wrong or what I can do to fix it. I'm completely illiterate when it comes to phones, so if I made some stupid mistake don't laugh too hard.
 
GoPhones lock the SIM card to the phone used when you activate the card. You have to get a regular SIM card and call the activation number to activate that SIM card using the same phone number on the other SIM card.
