Hiya all, well my stupid tivo missed recording an episode of survivor somehow and I have just discovered utorrent to try to dl the episode I missed to my imac running 10.5.8 . It appears that I have downloaded it (file is Survivor.S19E10.The.Day.of.Reckoning.HDTV.XviD-FQM.avi) but when I played it on quicktime 7.6.4 there is no sound/

Have I mucked something up or should I play on something else? :idunno:

thanks heaps :helpsmili

Down load the K-Lite Codec Pack to update your codecs, download SM Player.
That should play the files to want.

SM Player usually plays anything, hope this helps you :)

once again, quicktime player proves to be another one of fapple's worthless pieces of software that you even have to pay for

i'll second the above recommendations

Like all the above said use vlc player... Btw vlc is enough for windows 7 users no need for any codec packs it will play anything no problem what so ever

You should get a codec pack installed and then use any player of your choice which supports FFDShow.

I'm not on Mac, but is installing a codec pack and ffdshow necessary? I had K-Lite's until it started causing me problems with nothing shown instead of the video. Got rid of it, installed ffdshow-tryouts, and then I'd be able to watch movies without problems.

VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC!!!
Got it? If not, one more time: VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC VLC!!!
Btw, latest WMP is somehow better than VLC cause it can interact with GPU and reduce CPU load, but that doesn't matter since you're on Mac.
