signing in to xbox.com help?

i try to sign into xbox.com and bungie.net but they say they need my windows live id. i give it to them and it doesnt work. is it the same as your email password for it cause im really mad and i want it to be fixed.
when i type in the wrong password it says your password is wrong but when i type in the right one it says its invalid :(
