sidekick slide unlocking for at&t question?

I just bought an unlocked sidekick slide off of ebay, for at&t. i was wondering, when i get the sidekick, do i put my at&t sim card in just like how you do for the t-mobile one? Do I put it in before or after I turn the phone on and do you know if i have to set anything when i first turn on the unlocked phone or it will be good as new?
