Sidekick Lx HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

hello
so i brought an unlocked sidekick lx of ebay
to use in the uk
well everything works perfect on it except two things

first off the trackball - it works untill you press it down to select something and then it wont work again untill u turn it off and then on

second text messaging - it sends and receives alright but it doesn't notify me when i have one except for the ball flashing blue.

any help would be greatly appretiated
