Sidekick ID activation, please help!?

My girlfriend wants a Sidekick ID for Christmas and I found a few online for pretty cheap. My only concern is can you still acivate the Sidekick ID since it is an old model. She has T Mobile and everything but I dont want to waste money on the phone if I cannot activate the phone anymore because of how old it is.
The phone I would purchase is brand new and all, I just really want to make sure everything could work out.
