side effects of Minicyclin...(SP?)

I don't know if I spelled that right but those of you taking it know what I am talking about. Have any of you experienced bad side effects or long lasting effects? How long have you been on the medicine to see a difference? I was prescribed it but haven't started it yet. Is this one of the better treatments? Better than acutane? Also, after you are finished with the Minicycline, does the acne come back?
 
I have tried minocycline before and it did not work for me. Since it is an antibiotic i believe you have to take it forever if you want to manage your acne. The side effects I got where really bad. Nausea, vomiting, hives, did not make my acne worse or better but I got every side effect that was listed on the bottle. Everyone is different though so go ahead and give it a try.
 
it works really well for me. I used to have bad acne and went on Accutane. Everything was fine for years and then i got this sudden flare-up out of nowhere. Went on minocin (minocyclin) and it cleared it right up. Now whenever I have a bit of a flare-up the derm gives me a two-week course of Minocin and it does the trick. My flare-ups are mild - so I'm not sure how well it works on more severe acne.

I think that if you use it long term it does eventually stop working. But, it's good at clearing things up fast while the other meRAB kick in.

One thing for the girls - it does interfere with BCPs.
