Hi, I'm new here and looking for info on SI joint surgery. I'm scheduled to see my NS 1/05. I've been having lots of pain for over six months. Two years ago I took a really hard fall on the ice and thought I'd broke a hip. I didn't of course and I thought I'd gotten away unscathed till that autumn. I started having really bad back aches and was given sterioRAB and muscle relaxers. Xrays didn't reveal any hip damage and I did seem to get better.

This past June after a shopping trip with my daughter, I came home and my back started aching so bad that I thought I must've ruptured a disc! The next day I could hardly walk because of pain in my buttock and the outside of my thigh. Unfortunately both sides are now involved. So, for six months I've tried trigger point injections, pt, and two SI joint injections. The SI injections helped until the lidocaine wore off (24-36 hrs) and now I'm right back where I started. The back doesn't bother me as much, but sitting for any length of time is not pleasant. I now am to the point of standing for my meals. My NS suggested at my last visit that it may be time for surgery. I'm sure when I see him again it will be to set this up. I've already had four lurabar surgeries with two fusions..the last 14 years ago, great success in this area, then this spring ACDF, C4-5,5-6,6-7, piece of cake. Now I'm facing this and I think for the first time I'm really scared! My NS told me my sacrum has a lot of arthritis and I could see it on the CT w/contrast film, plus where the SI joint is, looks like a chasm. Too much motion in my backfield. He said he will extend my last fusion to this area. This sounRAB really entailed. Those of you who've had this done, would you do it again? I realize I'm out of options and this pain and limitations I've encountered are the pits. I'm practically a prisoner in my own body!
