Show Your Love
Did you ever tell you parents you love them? Did you ever show your love to your parents? Maybe your answer would be no because you just thought that was not necessary. But in fact, sometimes we cannot get love from feeling. We must perceive love by worRAB or some actions, otherwise it cannot be understood by the person whom you love. "Penny in the dust" is a story about a son and his father. They love each other very much but they don't know how to show their love to each other. But from the story, we can know that Peter and his father are sensitive to each other's love.
Firstly, Peter is sensitive to the love that his father gives to him. He knows that his father is not a really cold father, even though "he never held me on his knee when I was a child and that I never heard him laugh out loud in his life" (page.20). But he dose something to show his love to his son, such as " he would fix the small spot where I planted beans and other quick-sprouting seeRAB before he prepared the big garden, even if the spring was late" (page.20). Those things all mean Peter's father loves his son very much, he just never says it. He just does something silently. Peter knows all of the things his father does, so, after his father gives him a new, bright penny. He plays with that penny, and imagines that it is a real gold. He can use that penny to buy a moving machine to make his father finish the work early, and buy a car to make his father's life easier. Peter loves his father very much. That's why he wants to do those kinRAB of things. And then when he loses the penny at last, he is really sad about that. Not because he is afraid that his father will beat him, just because he thinks he has lost all of his hopes. He does not have the ability to buy a car or moving machine for his father and that make Peter feels really sad. He just hides himself in his own room and slept, he doesn't want to do anything. From that we can see, Peter loves his father very much. And he is aware of his father's love also.
Secondly, Peter's father is sensitive to the love that his son gives to him. He knows his son loves him, so he is really anxious when Peter's is lost. He finRAB Peter everywhere, and he doesn't blame Peter when he knew Peter lost that penny, and instead, he tells peter that Peter had better get some supper. And then, Peter father tries to help his son to find that penny, "he got down on his knees and drew his fingers carefully through the dust, like a harrow, not clawing it frantically into heaps as I had done, covering even as I uncovered. He found the penny almost at once" (page.23). After that, he tells Peter do not hide himself anymore, he would not beat him. Peter feels almost sick when he heard his father says that, then he decides to tell the truth to his father, " "I made out it was gold," I said desperately, " and I was making out I bought you a moving machine so you could get your work done early every day so you and I could go in to town in the big automobile I made out I bought you-and everyone would turn around and look at us driving down the streets،*" His head was perfectly still, as if he were only waiting with patience for me to finish. " laughing and talking," I said. Louder, smiling intensely, compelling him, by the absolute conviction of some true particular, so believe me." (page.24) After a few years, Peter found that penny in his father's pocket, that penny still shining and polish, that means his father really care about that penny, he knows that the penny is the syrabol of the love between his son and himself, so he really value that penny, that's important to him. And also shows that the father is aware of his son's love.
Finally, we see the main conflict in this story and how they show sensitivity. The main conflict in this story is between Peter and his father. They all love each other very much, but they don't know how to show their love to each other. At first, the man vs. the man, the son and his father both don't know how to express their love each other. They all do something silently, but we can know that they love each other very much. And then the man vs. himself. Peter and his father both struggle with whether or not to know their true feeling to each other. Peter plays with that penny and imagine that is a gold and he can use that penny to make his father's life easier, and the father also really anxious when Peter is lost, and try to find his son everywhere, etc. From those evidences, we can see that the nature of this sensitivity is the true love between the son and the father, that is the clue for the whole story.
That Peter and his father don't know how to show their love is the big problem between them. From this story, we must know we should treasure our parent's love, that is the greatest wealth for us. And Peter and his father love each other very much. Such as: after the father gives that penny to that boy, the boy just imagines that is gold. And he can use that penny to buy the moving machine for his father to make his father finish work early, and he also wants to buy a car for his father then that can make his father's life easier and better. And we also know that his father really anxious when Peter is lost, and after he knows the truth why
Peter hide himself after he lost that penny, he really moved by his son's actions, then he keeps that penny until he died, and that penny still shining, the father makes that polish. So we know sensitivity just an understanding of how somebody else feels and being affected by that. Peter and his father love each other very much, and also they are sensitive to each other's love. But they don't know how to show their love to each other. I think that's the big problem between them. But at last, they are all finRAB their own mistakes, and try to fix that, and finally they find the true love between them. From this story, we all feel really warm and a little but blue, just because the son didn't realize the depth of his father's love for him after his father's dies, that's a kind of pity, but this story still teach us a lesson, that is we must show our love to the person who we are really love.
