Today was our battalion safety day and a topic discussed was fire safety. The NCO was telling us tips like tying sheets together to escape from upper levels of military housing and someone stood up to say that that is just not good enough for a family with children and we need fire escapes. I realized this as well having just moved to the 4th floor with a 2 yr old and a newborn. The center stairwell is our only exit and if apartments below us are in flames you bet the stairwell is gonna be so smokey you can't even breathe. What if a fire prevents us from accessing the front door and only exit? I'm supposed to tie sheets together to get carry my children down? I think this is crap and really needs addressing. Is there no laws to get this done? I'm am currently serving in the Army in Germany. I would really like to see something done about this but how??
