My brother had Spina bifida and unfortunately died due to complications of his condition a few weeks after his birth (I don't know much details about it as it happened a few years before I was born and I don't want to ask my mum as I don't want to upset her as she's been through a lot lately). One of my sister's is currently trying for a baby and read that if your a woman and have a history of Spina bifida in your family that you should start taking folic acid when you become of child baring age. Is this true? My other sister and I aren't pregnant nor trying. Also as I'm 24 and my sisters are 28 and 34 (so we have all been of child baring age for a while now) in that case is it too late for folic acid to make a difference?
I know that. Folic Acid isn't medication though it's just over the counter like multi vitims, cod liver oil etc
