...computer animation or graphic design? I know 4 year universities offer art majors, but if you interested in something like animation or graphic design (i know they are different but they are art majors) should you go to regular universities or art schools ?

I think it mostly depends on you. I feel like a 4 year program would offer more opportunities to have a well-rounded education while concentrating on what you want, but 2 years are immersed enough for some people.

Just make sure that you get a program with a good reputation/ you like.

Either would work. But, not all universities will have a good graphic art or animation program. You need to do research and make sure that it is a strong, well funded department in the university and that you will receive a quality education.

If you can afford it and you get in a reputable art school could be a great experience for you. Your eduction will be much more focused and you will build a larger network of people who could be beneficial to your career.

Either works. The decision of going to somewhere like the Art Institute versus the State University (for most people) comes down to money. Everything I've seen in my career has convinced me that when all is said and done, they're really the same thing in terms of the quality of designers they turn out. It's really how much work an individual puts in to their education (wherever it is) that makes the difference.

I went to the State U, and it had a very well respected design program. So, my advice is stop thinking about it in terms of which one will give you a better advantage over the other and just focus on which is right for you in terms of cost, location, etc.

I do agree with some of the answers because some schools that have graphic design programs aren't the best but I would say look into specialty schools because they will have the best programs in graphic design. Also think about what you want to do with your graphic design degree after you graduate and find a school that specializes in that specific part of your career. The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising has a great graphic design program and they're a specialty school which is cool. People who graduate with a degree in graphic design can have careers as a graphic designer, web designer, art director or creative director. They also have a digital media program which has to do with 3-D characters for movies, tv shows or even video games which are all great careers to get into. Both programs are great and I've heard nothing but great things from my friends who graduated from FIDM. Check out the school's website and see if you like these majors :) Good luck!
