Should we perform blood sampling in antibiotic resistance studies against bacterial

infections? to the best of my knowledge blood is free of bacterial pathogens. viruses may b present in bloodstream in a number of infections. so my inference is that we may not analyze blood samples, instead collect and isolate bacterial pathogens from other bodily secretions like sputum or urine.
but im not sure. so please can anyone give me an authenticated answer? better yet with a referance
