should the war in Afghanistan continue or should we bring the soldiers home?

My brother is over in Afghanistan right now, so I am all for supporting and respecting our men and women in uniform. At the same time, I cannot help but see truth in what you're saying. We can only do so much in a culture that is so very different from ours. I know we HAVE opened up so many opportunities that were otherwise nonexistant for the people there (women and girls are gaining more and more rights, and now the people's voice is gradually becoming more influential), among other projects such as building schools, etc..

But I wonder if those soldiers will be expected to stay there until an Eastern culture transforms into a Western one? If so, than they will be there for a very long time..seemingly forever.

I hope they are brought home soon.

I don't understand why I am getting a thumbs down repeatedly? My heart is in this just as much as anyone else's, and I happen to be very conservative. I'm just speaking from what I can't help by observe. I am a supporter of the troops, and I do want to see them triumph--I just don't want more to die at the expense of a very impossible task for ANY country to undertake...to transform a culture.

this war looks just like the war in vietnam,,, we lost over 50,000 troops there and we did not accomplish anything but filling a bunch of caskets with our young men this is the same thing all over again this war is un winnable just like nam they were shooting at us when we pulled out of there and and the war in afghanistan will end the same way !

i dont think its going to be as bad as vietnam, the war isnt looking too good at the moment but i wouldnt call it just yet.
anyway theres nothing any of us on here can do about it, go run for election then maybe your opinions will actually matter.

The Arab nations have been fighting amongst each other since Christ died, literally. I don't think we, the US, can stop the blood shed. The people of Afghanistan need to make a conscious effort to fix the problem. Besides, we need to focus on our own sh*t here in the states.

In my opinion, winning the war in Afghanistan is nothing more than another hour, day, or year in which terrorists do not have a country in which they can freely train and organize themselves for operations similar to those that occurred on September 11th, 2001.

What do you think we are trying to achieve? We are not trying to build shopping malls there.

Colossas, youre absolutely right. Lets pull out, let the Taliban take back the country and leave millions at the mercy of their charming ways.

Listen, the men and women of the armed forces are big boys and girls, they really dont need you feeling bad for them. Your concern is I'm sure greatful, but they know what they are doing.

Our policy there is the erradication of a militant group by means of force. Our men and women dont have a problem with that, they only request that their boss give them the resources to get the objective completed. Unfortunately, there isn't a number goal of dead bodies to read to claim victory, Their numbers are growing as they find their way into country from other countries. Afghanistan isnt Vietnam, we arent fighting a rogue nation, we are fighting a street gang with no borders.

History, N. Vietnam was a country (Target) that today we could end this today. Taliban is more like the street gang the Bloods or the Crips with an Adgenda, Guns and a real gung-ho attitude to bring down religion onto the heads of the non-believers. If you're not one of them, yo're the enemy. And if you let them have a saef harbor to grow, train and launch attacks, the only thing you're going to do is cleaning up the dead bodies all over the world, and especially here, or even at the mall where your family shops.

When we kill more of them than they get of new fighters in country, then we'll see improvement. As far as I'm concerned, we can keep the fight there, and keep sucking them in, and wiping them out.

Afghanistan is where we should have been in the first place. Iraq is the shit war with a personal agenda. Support the Afghan war. Support our troops regardless. They are just doing what they are told. They are the shit.
