My brother is over in Afghanistan right now, so I am all for supporting and respecting our men and women in uniform. At the same time, I cannot help but see truth in what you're saying. We can only do so much in a culture that is so very different from ours. I know we HAVE opened up so many opportunities that were otherwise nonexistant for the people there (women and girls are gaining more and more rights, and now the people's voice is gradually becoming more influential), among other projects such as building schools, etc..
But I wonder if those soldiers will be expected to stay there until an Eastern culture transforms into a Western one? If so, than they will be there for a very long time..seemingly forever.
I hope they are brought home soon.

I don't understand why I am getting a thumbs down repeatedly? My heart is in this just as much as anyone else's, and I happen to be very conservative. I'm just speaking from what I can't help by observe. I am a supporter of the troops, and I do want to see them triumph--I just don't want more to die at the expense of a very impossible task for ANY country to undertake...to transform a culture.
