i mean, in health class we talk about sex, alcoholism and drug addictions but never has any of those other things been even mentioned. they happen all the time and are especially relevant to teens.

so, what do you think?

It's a very sensitive subject. Self injury/suicide/ and mental disorders are all common in teens but the money that's being spent on the abstinence programs isn't stopping teens from having sex. It can be discussed in schools to help prevent teens from self injury's but it should be a therapists or a phsyciatrists job to really help suicidal teen. Depression is discussed in health classes but that doesn't stop teens from being depressed. You do have a point though and maybe if it was discussed more there would be less teens doing it. If I was a suicidal teen I wouldn't want to sit in class and listen to a teacher talk about something they might've not personally gone through and I don't think it would affect me or speak to me. But I'm not a suicidal teen so maybe it would. I definately don't think it's a topic that should be talked about lightly.

This is a good question though : )

Yes. But no body should be forced to open up about their experiences because it's their business. There should be awareness about it though, because someone may know someone who needs help, and they just don't know how to help that person. Sometimes, someone may be on the brink and one simple talk may help them, but not to the extent where someone has to share what they're thinking.

Yeah, those things are important. I mean, statistics have shown that there are more likely to injure themselves etc. than to have sex or do drugs. Also, the stress from all that stuff can sometimes lead to kids hurting themselves or worse, so it's best to talk about all of that. And I mean, most kids already know about sex from their parents and drugs and alcohol from TV and their friends.....so yes, I think that those should be discussed so that maybe kids won't feel as scared to talk about them.

They get talked about at my school and they got talked about in my last school too.

I think someone needs to review your curriculum.

They do need to be talked about so students know that they aren't alone and that they aren't the only ones that feel like that and should talk to someone to get help
