Should religion and politics be discussed in public schools?

I am writing an article for my local paper. If you feel comfortable leaving your full name, it would make it easier for me to quote you. But if not, I completely understand and would still like to hear your thoughts.
 
Yes it should because its the only way that tolerance and open mindedness can be encouraged.
