Should my military id be valid anywhere in the US?

When I go into a new place, and they ask ,"May I see your ID?", I show my military ID. Most places have no problem accepting this. There are few palaces that won't accept it though. This just rubs me the wrong way. I have to have this ID to get onto any military base, and it is not easy to obtain. Now I always thought federal had oversay over state, so shouldn't my military id be just as good an ID if not better than an ordinary driver's licence.
