have been released by the doctor at 6 months? For those of you who dont know i had anterior/posterior fusion with all hardware in March 08.

It wasn't that way for me. I saw him with films every three months the first year then every six months the 2nd year and then 12 months after the second year.
Every doc is different-did he release you for work? From his care all together?

I had a two level ALIF/PLIF also in July of 2006.

Tell us a little more about his "release",ok?

Blessings,
Momz

No he didnt say anything about going back to work and i asked about weight restrictions and he just blew them off i am trying to get through to them on hte phone.

I know alot of people say a teaching hospital is the best and that is what i go to but i ALWAYS see different people and never the same one that is what makes me so mad. I just take it he is releasing me totally cause he said they dont need me to go back unless i have a problem and need something.

But although my first fusion never took that doctor saw me at least for 2 years after. I dont know.

That seems a bit early to me, unless you're absolutely fully fused already. Have they done a CT to confirm that?

Yikes! I hear your frustration! You'd think they'd want you to be taking appropriate care of your back. Why wouldn't he give you a good answer about lifting restrictions? *sigh* What's so hard about that? I hope you were able to get through on the phone and got a real answer! That's so important!!!

My dr released me at a little over 3 months. The book and paper handouts I got prior to surgery said follow up for a year. After xrays for to check my hardware, he said it looked fine to call if I had any problems. I am having epidurals done now by my pain management dr. This dr has done xrays. Personally I think I need a CT or MRI. I did call the surgeon and let them know of my weakness and xrays. I read the report to them over the phone. I may call them again and let them know whats going on. The pain dr is much closer and more dependable than the surgeon. I was at a teaching hospital and had a bad experience. I had another type surgery years ago there and was treated well. When I returned with a complication from surgery I was treated well but they knew the what happened when I had surgery. I let them know upfront I wasnt gonna have that again.
I was let go too early as well I think. He wouldnt give me weight limits either but filled out papers for my disability insurance with a 10lb limit and even told them i should be able to go back to work. He never took into account my other problems. but I guess he doesnt really care unless its pertaining to surgery. I even had an appt 6 wks after surgery where I was told I would get xrays. They said no thats next time and we just wanted to see you face to face. That was a 5 minute appt with the Physicians Asst after a drive of over 1.5 hours.
I guess all drs are different and things arent always as we are told.

Thanks alot Emily
No he didnt do anything except x-ray and that is what worries me. You guys on here have taught me enough i didnt know the first go around. And i guess what really made me mad that day is he is from where i live in southern Louisiana and then he started asking about if we had damage and i love a doctor to be friendly like that but geez i wanted to know things that were REALLY importanat.

No luck on the phone right now. And sorry i am in and out today my son is in the 9th and we are having our first homecoming dance and its not good!

That is the only good thing is i ad x-rays every time i went. But i understand what your saying about they dont want to hear it if it has nothing to do with the surgery.

I cant beleive they let you go at 3 months??? Thats early. That is like when i had my hysterectomy in 2005 they let me go early and the doctor that did the surgery told me he came to see me and i was gone. Always thought they had to have the signatr from the doc for that? Oh well a day after i was hom(if it was that long) the incision busted back open and then they didnt want to let me out of the hospital they knew they were wrong.

I just cant beleive these doctors.

tmv I am not shocked by anything anymore and I do not understand why he would release you this early and you are still having problems. I will post later about my doctor's appt. today which was also a failure but I will reply back on my original thread. I would definitely have them put all your restrictions in writing to you. Are you completely fused?

Linda i dont know anything anymore. I asked about the fusion and all he said was it looked good and i asked specifically is it ALL fused and he said it all looks good. Sooo do i draw my own conclusion? I was told at 3 months when i went he wouldnt comment on the fusion saying it takes a while to see fusion and now this one sayd that! I just dont know.
