Should I Work At Mcdonalds?

I am a 17 year old high school senior with a very heavy course load. I am taking mainly AP classes that need a bit of studying at night. My mom was recently laid off and drawing about 1/3 her old income in unemployment. She is searching for a job, but it is very unlikely that she will find anywhere that she will make as much as her old job, where she worked for 20 years and had a raise each year. My father is in prison, so we receive no child support. With my mom's old income, we struggled a bit and are really worried about how badly we will start struggling once the bills come in on her new reduced income.

I personally, have no real work experience besides three days that I worked at a friends Gym. I have despised fast food, especially mcdonalds, since I was very young. It would indeed be very hypocritical of me to work there, but I do not think I have any other choice. I have applied at several businesses with no success at all. I also fear that I will be ridiculed by my peers for working at McDonalds.

I am guaranteed a job at mcdonalds because the manager is renting a house from my grandparents. I am also guaranteed a job at pizza hut delivering (a job that I think would be ideal), but I cannot start until I turn 18 in may. I need a job now. I am also attending university in the fall and I will need to save up money for that, although I will have a work-study job in the chemistry lab there.

THE BOTTOM LINE is should I work at Mcdonalds under the circumstances. The pay is actually 2 dollars over the minimum wage in my state, so it is a really good deal. I just don't know if I can bring myself to work there.`Should I go for it or just wade it out?

P.S. Sorry if this post is a little chopped up or hard to understand as I am hungover, lol.

Work at McDonald's and appreciate the job opportunity. I was recently told of 350 applicants for a part-time server position at Outback. Take the job. Thank your lucky stars.

Hey! if u really think that you can handle the stress, go for it.
It's just so nice of you for thinking of ways to help your mom. :-)
Keep it up!
And i hope it would do good for your situation now. :-)

i would take the job i think you would like it & you said you need the money, just don't let it stop you from your home work

You should work at Mcdonald's until you turn 18 and then you can quit and go to Pizza Hut. You might as well start earning money now plus you get experience for other jobs like the Pizza Hut one. You should definitley not worry about what your peers say just worry about your schoolwork and current family/home situation. 2 dollars over minimum wage is also a great thing to think about so i say work a McDonalds and start saving for college

1. You are 17 and hung over? Well I would really love to hire a 17 year old who is a lawbreaker! Of course I would not know it by your application.
I am sure your Mom would be proud.

2. Everyone should have the experience of working in a food establishment at least once in their lifetime. It gives you an appreciation for lots of stuff you would not learn if you did not go thought it.

3. Anywhere you can get a job would be good for you even if you were not going to contribute to the household. THAT THOUGHT IS WAT MAKES YOU GREAT!!!

4. Sounds like your intentions are good. There IS hope for you! I say go for it and QUIT that drinking!! Now young man!

Have you been watching the news? A job is a job, be it what you want or don't like. I'd go for it in a heartbeat. Forget about your chuckle headed peers. At least you are trying your best for you and your mom and that is commendable. May is not too far off if you're still interested in the pizza hut job, but first make sure they're still hiring before you quit Mcdonalds. How are you going to make money if you're just going to "wait it out?" With the economy so bad, you have to forget about your dislikes and do the right thing to somewhat keep the money flowing into your household. Although you are young, that's what's going to make you more of a man than just a kid waiting for a handout from mommy. If I was your mom, I'd be proud of you. good luck.

Well I guess if your mom lost your job then you should get it, and 2 dollars over is pretty good. Save 1/3 of the money for you and give 2/3 to your mom so that she can keep the house up and stuff like that.

P.S. It doesn't matter if your friends make fun of you, just ignore them for a while and they will forget it.
