Should I use a mono or stereo potentiometer on a guitar pedal?

So, I am building my own pedal and I am going to buy parts tomorrrow. The thing is - I got confused, when I saw that potentiometers are mono and stereo. I know, that if I want to build a true bypass pedal, I have to use stereo input and mono output, but how is it with potentiometers?
 
Get the mono type. If you want to get a stereo effect, than you will need to use the stereo-type and get the appropriate stereo cable . Otherwise, only one channel will work. You can always install both and use the one you want.
