i just bought this car 3 days ago and the previous owner used pennzoil 5w-30 but i was thinking go with mobile clean 5000 10w-30 cause its a old car and mobil is better but i live in chicago and the temps are in the high 20s now cause its winter so what do u guys think? i looked inside the valve covers and i still can see metal parts inside with a tiny bit of baked on oil the car supposly has a rebuilt engine in it with 20,500 miles.

in that cold of a climate i would keep the light oil. also i would be careful putting a detergent oil in if it didn't have one already. (assumeing that's what the clean stands for) we put some in an engion because somebody told us that it would help to clean up an old engion but it did to good of a job and we ended up clogging up the crank shaft with the crap that it cut loose which caused the engion to burn up. never again.

for most of the sixties up thru the eighties, mfg's recommended 10w-30 or 10w-40 for cars with v8s, the 5w or 10w only matters at start up anyway.....

the 455 pontiac in my hotrod has Kendall Gt-1 High-performance 20w-50...
my saturn has 5w-30

CHECK YOUR MANUAL,or look under the hood on the oil fill cap. if not there usually on the radiator fan cover sometimes there's info. when you buy the oil ,check the books or catalogs by the oil, or oil filters. if not call a dealer,or mechanic if you no one !
